The Rotary Club of Central Lakes joins Rotary clubs around the world to support their communities as the COVID-19 pandemic spreads uncertainty and hardship around the world.

As people of action, Rotary members are engaged in their communities — gathering for projects and offering help to those in need. Fighting disease is one of Rotary’s main causes, so members already support efforts to promote proper hand washing techniques, teach people other ways to stay healthy, and supply training and vital medical equipment to health care providers. Now they’re helping health authorities communicate lifesaving information about COVID-19 and donating protective gear and other supplies to clinics and hospitals that are under strain because of the pandemic.

The Rotary Club of Central Lakes recently donated $1,000 to The St. Joe’s COVID-19 Response Fund. “Gifts to this fund will be used to fulfill whatever need is greatest to properly care for our patients and employees during this crisis,” said David Jeremiason, Development Director for Essentia Health’s St. Joseph’s Foundation. “Examples might include supplies, specialized safety equipment, technology that could enhance contact between patients and their family members, stress relievers for our staff, and unanticipated expenses incurred because of having to manage differently in a crisis.”

The club also donated $1,000 to The Outreach Program of Brainerd Lakes (formerly Kids Against Hunger BLA). “Your generous donation allows the program to package 3,333 meals,” said Shawn Hansen, Executive Director. “And because we have a matching grant challenge going on with CTC – Consolidated Telephone Company, your donation is doubled! We are able to package 6,667 meals. Please thank your club members for their commitment to feeding families.”
