Central Lakes Rotary Club Projects List & Fundraisers

The members of the Rotary Club of Central Lakes are volunteers

who work locally, regionally, and internationally to combat hunger,

improve health and sanitation, provide education and job training,

promote peace, and eradicate polio under the motto

Service Above Self.

Projects and Fundraisers:

  • STRIVE (Students Taking Renewed Interest in the Value of Education) Mentoring Program (Sept - May)

STRIVE is a program for Pine River-Backus and Pequot Lakes High School seniors with emphasis on preparing for post-graduation opportunities and responsibilities while working to improve grade point averages.  The program's goal is to motivate interested High School seniors to discover their own strengths and talents to increase their personal and academic achievement.  Post secondary educational scholarships are offered to students who meet their goals.  Plans are underway to implement a STRIVE program in Pequot Lakes High School in 2016.  Rotarians are needed to serve as mentors; mentors are the key to this program's success through sharing their experiences, knowledge and advice to help these students make the most of their senior year.
  • Roadside Pickup (May & October)

Central Lakes Rotarians work with the Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus Interact Clubs to pick up the litter along two 3-miles stretches of highway in the Central Lakes area. Rotarians are needed to transport and work with students to pick up the litter.

  • 4th of July Water Sales (July)

Rotarians sell water at the Pequot Lakes 4th of July parade, money is put into our fund to help local organizations.  Rotarians are needed to walk around with a wagon of water to sell at the parade.

  • Bean Hole Days Dilly Bar Sales (July)

Rotarians sell Dilly Bars at the Pequot Lakes Bean Hole Days celebration.
The money raised is used to assist local organizations and youth projects.

  • REHT (Rotary Ends Human Trafficking) Music Festival (July)

Rotarians from Central Lakes Rotary, Brainerd Sunrise Rotary and Brainerd Noon Rotary sponsor a music & camping festival at Lakes Music & Events Park in Pine River.
The money raised is used to raise awareness about Human Trafficking in our area, and support survivors of Human Trafficking.

  • RYLA, Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (August)

Central Lakes Rotary provides full scholarships to sponsor multiple high school juniors or seniors to RYLA camp each summer.  Rotarians are needed to transport the students to camp in northern Minnesota and return them home after camp,

  • Rotary Roses (September-October)

Beautiful roses are sold to friends, family, business associates... anyone we can find.  We pre-sell the roses in September so we are providing a coupon, the roses are delivered in October to 7 retail locations in our area so purchases can pick up their own roses.  This project is in conjunction with our interact clubs and the students do a fabulous sales job.  This is a major fundraiser for our club; the proceeds support donations to community projects (see list at end of this site page).   Rotarians are needed to pre-sell the roses.
  • Dictionary distribution (October/November)

Dictionaries are provided to 3rd graders in Pequot Lakes, Pine River-Backus, Crosslake and Nisswa Elementary Schools.  The dictionaries are distributed in a brief and fun presentation and each child receives their own dictionary. Rotarians are needed to participate in the distribution.

  • Letters to Santa (December)

Central Lakes Rotarians sell letters to Santa for $5, the purchaser provides the name(s) of recipients and selects from among 5 letter options.  Letters are sent to the child before Christmas.  Rotarians are needed to sell letters, or buy them for those in your own family!

  • Bell Ringing for the Salvation Army (December)

Central Lakes Rotarians ring the bell at local retail establishments to help collect money for the Salvation Army to provide assistance to those in need in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  Rotarians are needed to work a shift ringing the bell.

  • Little Red Bookshelves (ongoing)

Bookshelves have been set up in local offices, stores and restaurants.  Central Lakes Rotarians keep the shelves stocked with children's books, children are encouraged to take a book home with them to encourage reading.  Rotarians are encouraged to donate or find used books (at garage sales, thrift shops, etc.) and help stock the little red bookshelves at area establishments.

  • Interact (Student Rotary) Clubs (ongoing)

Central Lakes Rotary sponsors Interact Clubs in Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus High Schools.  Interact gives students ages 12 - 18 the chance to make a real difference while having fun.  Every Interact club carries out two service projects a year, one that helps their school or community and one that promotes international understanding.   Rotarians are needed to serve as club advisors and to assist with Interact project planning and implementation.
