Central Lakes Rotary Club is highly involved in the S.T.R.I.V.E. program (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education), mentoring and providing scholarships to students in both the Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus high schools.
We celebrated our Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus 12th grade S.T.R.I.V.E. students at the Pequot Lakes Library on May 5, 2026.
We are incredibly proud of this year's group of students and wish them the very best on their next adventure in life.
I am writing to share an update regarding the Pequot Lakes High School Day of Caring 2026, which took place today, Wednesday, May 6, 2026.
As part of this annual event, our student volunteers performed various community service projects, including raking leaves, clearing brush, and washing windows for elderly residents and community members. Additionally, students volunteered for the Central Lakes Rotary highway cleanup along Hwy 371 near Veterans Park in Jenkins.

The Central Lakes Rotary sponsored a successful blood drive on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. A sincere thank you goes out to the fellow Rotarians who volunteered their time to manage check-ins and to those who contributed by donating blood. Your service is greatly appreciated!
The Central Lakes Rotary Club actively participates in the S.T.R.I.V.E. program (Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education), offering mentorship and scholarships to students at both Pequot Lakes and Pine River-Backus High Schools. The Crosslake Lions Club has generously contributed $10,000 to support the program’s annual scholarships.

Rotarian Patty Baltz, received her Paul Harris +7 Award in June 2023 from The Rotary Foundation. Patty was unable to attend the Club Meeting for the presentation due to her cancer treatments, exhaustion and being tied to her feeding tube. She still follows Central Lakes Rotary activities and looks forward to the day she can rejoin the Club in person. Patty had a good day on Tuesday, August 13, so Rotarian Linda Marrin, visited her and presented her with her new pin. Pictured in this lovely setting are Patty receiving the pin from Linda and feeling very much a part of Central Lakes Rotary Club.

Central Lakes Rotary Club welcomes McKENZIE SEPIN as a new member. McKenzie is the office manager at Select Therapy in Pine River. McKenzie was proposed by Rotarian Linda Marrin.

Patty Baltz is inducted as the newest Member of Central Lakes Rotary Club. Patty was sponsored by Past Club President, Linda Marrin, and her mentor will be Rotarian Keith Simar. The induction ceremony was conducted by President Bruce Meade, and District Governor 2017-2018, Debra Warner, assisted with the ceremony. Welcome Patty!
Central Lakes Rotary Club has perfect attendance for our Aug 25 meeting when we inducted 7 new members!! Keith Simar was unable to make the meeting that day; he made up the meeting by attending the Sept 2 Satellite meeting in Pine River, providing our club with perfect attendance for the 8/25 meeting.
Central Lakes Rotary Club was chartered in 1992, and we are proud to provide both financial and hands-on support to many community and international projects. Throughout the years, Central Lakes Rotary has donated to Kinship Partners, Grace House, Interfaith Caregivers, Ski Gull Scholarship Program, 3 Area Food Shelves, Salvation Army, Junior Achievement, Alex and Brandon House, H.A.R.T. Animal Rescue, Mounted Eagles and holiday gift baskets to local families. One of our recent Community Service Projects was the purchase and installation of playground equipment in the Pine River Dam Park.
Our International Projects have included partnering with other clubs for construction of clean water wells in third-world countries, construction of schools, a Korean ambulance project, Cows for Cambodia and Shelter Boxes.
Each year, Central Lakes Rotary provides dictionaries to 3rd grade students in Pequot Lakes, Pine River-Backus, Crosslake and Nisswa Elementary Schools, and our largest literacy effort was the completion of an Early Childhood Literacy Project in cooperation with St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. More than 700 gift packages were presented to parents of newborns, containing a book, blanket and literature showing the importance of beginning to read to babies right away.
